GOD'S TAKE ON LOVE
If you have read much of the Christian scripture or have
ever been to a wedding you have probably heard the following passage.
"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or
boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it
keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but
rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is
always hopeful, and
endures through every circumstance." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7
NLT)
The same scriptures tell us that "God is
love". In essence the popular
passage from 1 Corinthians 13 is a description of God's
character. Read it again and insert God everyplace that the word love is used. You will see that it truly is a description of God character in regard to his relationship
with his children. In a world full of broken romantic dreams and wounded hearts
this God type of love is difficult to find.
In fact this God kind of love is so rare that people no longer see true love as an option. Many settle for a infatuation kind of love, or a lust kind of love, or in some cases even an
abusive kind of love.
We often enter relationship with God with the same
expectations we have when we enter relationships with others. The thoughts that this is a temporary
thing, that He will eventually cheat on us, let us down, or grow
tired of us prevail, and we often preemptively break it off with God before we
get the chance to prove our fears right or wrong.
Regardless of your track record with relationships when it
comes to having a relationship with God, He will never give up on you. He will
never leave you. He will never refuse to listen to what you have to say. He will always love you just the way you are but love you enough to change you into the best version of yourself. Regardless
of your relational experience in this
broken world, God's love never fails.
